TEXAS FAMILY LAW APPEALS
If you believe the trial court made a legal error in your divorce, child custody, SAPCR, enforcement, modification, or other family law case, you may have the right to appeal. Christopher Meyer represents clients in family law appeals before the First Court of Appeals, the Fourteenth Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Texas.
Appeals are not new trials. Instead, the appellate court reviews the record from the trial court to determine whether legal errors occurred that affected the outcome of the case. Appellate practice involves detailed briefing, legal research, preservation-of-error analysis, and oral argument when appropriate.
Texas appeals are governed by the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure, commonly referred to as the "TRAP." These rules establish the deadlines, procedures, and requirements for pursuing an appeal in Texas courts. In most civil cases, a Notice of Appeal must be filed within 30 days after the trial court signs the final judgment. Certain post-judgment motions may extend that deadline to 90 days. Missing an appellate deadline can result in the loss of your right to appeal.
If you are considering an appeal or have been served with appellate paperwork, contact Christopher Meyer Law Firm, PLLC as soon as possible. Appellate deadlines are strict, and early evaluation of the case is critical.
